How to Care for Your Furniture: Hand-rubbed Oil Finish

Our proprietary, two-step, hand-rubbed oil finish is a marvel. It took Dave Stine over 20 years to develop it. It protects your piece while allowing the natural beauty of the wood to shine through. The finish is exceedingly resilient and will absorb a lot of wear with minimal effect on the appearance of the piece.

That said, your piece is natural wood, and care should be taken to preserve the finish and protect the wood. Follow these simple rules to help your piece last a lifetime or more:

•Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Dry well.

•Do not use commercial polishes, sprays, waxes, or harsh chemical cleaners or wipes, especially those containing MEK or alcohol.

•Do not place hot pans, plates, pots, pizza boxes, food cartons, etc. on the surface.

•Take care with metal objects like staples, knives, scissors, etc. These will scratch the wood.

•Do not slide rough pottery, dishes, or cardboard boxes across the surface.

•Do not place or leave wet items on the surface.

•Avoid letting spills or liquids sit on the surface. Wipe them up promptly with a soft damp cloth and then dry with a soft dry cloth.

•If a ring or water spot appears, dry it and leave it alone. It will dissipate in a day or two as the water evaporates out of the oil layer of the finish.

•If you happen to scratch your piece or need to refinish a small section, simply use a little of the Rejuvenator you received. Follow these instructions:

o   SHAKE WELL.

o   Apply a few drops and rub in with a coarse paper towel or the pad provided.

o   Wipe off excess with a soft cloth.

o   Allow to dry.

o   The spot may appear shinier at first, but it will eventually even out and blend in.

If your piece is more than 10 years old, a different finish was used. To care for those items apply a thin coating of lemon oil and work in well.
