David Stine selects every tree,
mills every board and crafts each piece of
furniture by hand. No two are alike.
David harvests much of his lumber from
family forests that he stewards himself to ensure responsible
sustainability. Once the trees are harvested, David mills
the logs at his woodshop in Dow, Illinois. Design
inspiration comes from the inner beauty of the wood
itself, through the process
of harvesting and sawing.
In addition to limited edition pieces in the portfolio,
clients may custom order furniture to their exact
specifications. When a client places an order, the boards
are chosen and the design and craft
process begins. All
pieces are hand crafted using traditional methods of joinery
and construction. Only environmentally safe finishes are
used. Because no two trees and no two boards are alike, no
two pieces of furniture are alike. Each is one-of-a-kind.
David's clients include
architects, designers, decorators,
restaurateurs and artists, including architect Hugh Newel
Jacobsen, actor and director Chris Eigeman, writer and pundit
Andrew Sullivan and Crate & Barrel owners Gordon and
Carole Segal.
David Stine's work has been
featured in Forbes Life,
Architectural DC, design space,
Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion, and
St. Louis Magazine, where he was named one
of the St. Louis-area's top-ten "green" entrepreneurs. He
is a member of the American Craft Council, the Furniture
Society, the St. Louis Craft Alliance and a founding member
of the Sustainable Furniture Council.
